COFFEE QUESTIONS
The things people ask us most about this coffee.
Yes. It is built for espresso, with a heavy body and enough natural oils to pull a thick, lasting crema, and strong dark chocolate and roasted nut character under pressure.
Very high. As a Robusta it carries roughly double the caffeine of Arabica, and this is one of our highest-caffeine coffees.
Because it is a Robusta. Robusta beans naturally produce more and thicker crema than Arabica, which is why this coffee gives such a rich, lasting crema in espresso.
Bold and rich, with dark chocolate, molasses, and roasted nut over an earthy, smoky base. Very low acidity and a heavy, syrupy body.
Very well. Its intensity stands up to milk and sugar, so it shines in lattes and Vietnamese-style iced coffee with condensed milk.
Espresso, moka pot, phin filter, and drip machine. It is especially popular for traditional Vietnamese phin brewing.
Medium is the lightest of the three, bold and nut-forward with chocolate sweetness and a touch of dried fruit. Espresso sits between medium and dark, developed specifically for espresso with a balanced body and a thick crema. Dark is the deepest and most intense, with dark cocoa and earthy depth, best for a powerful cup and milk. All three keep the low acidity and heavy body Robusta is known for.
Choose medium for a lighter, sweeter, more versatile cup, espresso for a balanced, crema-rich shot developed for the machine, or dark for the boldest, heaviest cup with the most depth.
This is one of our boldest, highest-caffeine coffees. If you already enjoy strong, full-bodied cups you will love it; if you prefer something milder, a smooth medium roast is a gentler starting point.
Choose your grind at checkout, or select whole bean and grind at home. As a guide: fine for espresso, medium for pour over and drip, and coarse for French press.
