What This Coffee Tastes Like

India Robusta is a single origin Robusta coffee grown in southern India, where shaded cultivation and humid growing conditions contribute to its bold character and high caffeine content.

Known for its strength and full-bodied profile, this coffee offers a direct, uncompromising cup designed for espresso-focused brewing and those who prefer intensity over brightness.

Roast Profile

Espresso Roast

Bold and intense with a heavy body and low acidity. Roasted specifically for espresso, India Robusta delivers strong dark cocoa flavours, earthy depth, and a pronounced bitterness that gives the cup weight and power.

This roast produces thick crema and a long, lingering finish, making it ideal for espresso, moka pot, and milk-based drinks where strength and structure are preferred.

Roasting Schedule

We roast in fresh small batches for peak flavour and quality, and let every batch degas before it ships, so your coffee reaches you at its best.

We ship across Canada and to many countries worldwide. We roast weekly in small batches, and orders ship within 3 business days of being placed, so your coffee reaches you soon after its roast.

For espresso, start with a tighter 1:1.5 to 1:1.8 brew ratio and a shorter 24–28 second extraction. This helps control bitterness while producing dense crema and a heavier body.

COFFEE QUESTIONS

Questions, answered

The things people ask us most about this coffee.

How much caffeine does it have?

Very high. As a Robusta it carries roughly double the caffeine of Arabica.

What does it taste like?

Bold and intense, with tobacco, peanut, and barley over a heavy body and a deep, powerful presence that gives the cup real weight and structure.

Why does this coffee produce so much crema?

Because it is a Robusta. Robusta beans naturally produce more and thicker crema than Arabica, so this coffee builds a dense, lasting crema in espresso.

Does it make good espresso?

Yes. It is roasted specifically for espresso and produces thick crema and a long, lingering finish, and it holds up strongly in milk.

Is this a good coffee for beginners?

This is a strong, intense, high-caffeine Robusta, best if you already enjoy powerful, full-bodied coffee. For a milder start, a smooth medium roast is a gentler choice.

How should I grind my coffee for my brew method?

Choose your grind at checkout, or select whole bean and grind at home. As a guide: fine for espresso, medium for pour over and drip, and coarse for French press.

How fresh is the coffee when it arrives?

We roast weekly in small batches in Ottawa, and your order ships within 3 business days of being placed, so your coffee reaches you soon after its roast for peak flavour.

Should I choose whole bean or ground?

Every coffee is available as whole bean or ground to your brew method. Whole bean stays fresher longer; ground is ready to brew right away.

How should I store my coffee to keep it fresh?

Keep it in an airtight container away from light, heat, and moisture. Avoid the fridge, and use it within a few weeks of opening for the best flavour.

Can I subscribe and save?

Yes. Choose a subscription at checkout to get fresh coffee delivered on your schedule. You can adjust or cancel anytime per our subscription policy.

Where do you ship, and how much is shipping?

We ship across Canada and to many countries worldwide. Free Standard shipping applies to Canadian orders, starting at $70 in Ontario and Quebec and rising by region up to $85 in the North. Standard rates within Canada start at $6.49. International customers cover shipping and any customs or duties, all shown at checkout.

A Powerful Addition to Espresso Blends

""I mainly use this Indian Robusta as part of espresso blends, usually around 15%, and it adds a noticeable boost in body, crema, and intensity without overpowering the other coffees. It brings more richness and depth to the cup and works especially well with decaf blends. A great choice for anyone looking to add more punch and character to espresso. ""

Extremely high-quality third-wave coffee that

"Extremely high-quality third-wave coffee that produces an incredible crema (thanks to the Robusta) when brewed as an espresso, with admirable balance and smoothness, and absolutely no fruity or acidic notes, only « genuine coffee » taste. Wow!"

André L. (5/5)

Strong, bold, and high-caffeine with

"Strong, bold, and high-caffeine with earthy, nutty, slightly bitter notes. Less smooth than Arabica, but great for punchy espresso or milk drinks. I reach for it when I want intensity, not nuance."

Amit S. (5/5)

I made my own espresso

"I made my own espresso blend. 70% Aribica 30% Robusta. I have an automatic machine. An automatic machine has its limitations. That's why I needed a top quality Robusta. With my 30% Robusta ratio, have was Indian, half was from Uganda. I truly loved the beans I ordered from Cofee Roast Lab. I will be making my next order soon! Supermarket cofee wasnt able to get the best out of my espresso machine. I needed some great beans. Thank you, I truly appreciate having awesome cofee at home."

Stephen D. (5/5)

Fresh and flavourful.

"Fresh and flavourful."

Strong & Bold!

"This roast is so delicious, I love my espresso's bitter, bold and strong. Very earthy and chocolate flavor. Would definitely recommend for those who aren't into the arabica/fruity flavor coffees. For the COINESSEURS!! :D"

Good job

"Good job"

Boris N. (5/5)

I bought this one again.

"I bought this one again. Flavor is good, but not as strong as the other Robusta kinds. That's ok for me, because I make strong chilled coffee to take on my nightly road trips. You want the higher caffeine kick of Robusta beans."
