What This Coffee Tastes Like

Djimmah Nyala is a naturally processed Ethiopian single origin coffee from the Djimmah (Jimma) zone of western Ethiopia. Grown by smallholder farmers and made up of heirloom Ethiopian varieties, this coffee is known for its depth, body, and grounded flavour profile.

Unlike brighter washed Ethiopian coffees, Djimmah Nyala focuses on richness and balance rather than high acidity, making it a dependable choice for espresso-focused brewing.

Roast Profile

Espresso Roast

Bold and structured with a full body and smooth, controlled acidity. Roasted specifically for espresso, Djimmah Nyala delivers rich cocoa flavours, roasted nut undertones, and subtle dark fruit sweetness that adds depth without sharpness.

This roast produces good crema and a rounded mouthfeel, performing especially well as a straight espresso and in milk-based drinks.

Roasting Schedule

We roast in fresh small batches for peak flavour and quality, and let every batch degas before it ships, so your coffee reaches you at its best.

COFFEE QUESTIONS

Questions, answered

The things people ask us most about this coffee.

What does it taste like?

Bold, rich, and smooth, with dark chocolate, berry, and earthy notes, plus roasted nut depth and subtle dark fruit sweetness.

Which brew methods suit it best?

Espresso, moka pot, and French press. A fine grind and controlled extraction balance its earthy depth and berry notes.

Does it make good espresso?

Yes. It produces good crema and a rounded mouthfeel, so it performs especially well as straight espresso and in milk drinks.

Is this a good coffee for beginners?

Yes, if you enjoy espresso-style coffee. It is rich and full, with more depth than a traditional medium roast, and still smooth.

How should I grind my coffee for my brew method?

Choose your grind at checkout, or select whole bean and grind at home. As a guide: fine for espresso, medium for pour over and drip, and coarse for French press.

How fresh is the coffee when it arrives?

We roast weekly in small batches in Ottawa, and your order ships within 3 business days of being placed, so your coffee reaches you soon after its roast for peak flavour.

Should I choose whole bean or ground?

Every coffee is available as whole bean or ground to your brew method. Whole bean stays fresher longer; ground is ready to brew right away.

How should I store my coffee to keep it fresh?

Keep it in an airtight container away from light, heat, and moisture. Avoid the fridge, and use it within a few weeks of opening for the best flavour.

Can I subscribe and save?

Yes. Choose a subscription at checkout to get fresh coffee delivered on your schedule. You can adjust or cancel anytime per our subscription policy.

Where do you ship, and how much is shipping?

We ship across Canada and to many countries worldwide. Free Standard shipping applies to Canadian orders, starting at $70 in Ontario and Quebec and rising by region up to $85 in the North. Standard rates within Canada start at $6.49. International customers cover shipping and any customs or duties, all shown at checkout.
