Ethiopian Harrar comes from the Harar zone of Oromia, one of the oldest coffee growing regions in the world. Grown at 1500 to 2200 metres from indigenous heirloom Arabica and dried whole in the cherry, this natural process coffee is produced by smallholder farmers through the Oromia Coffee Farmers' Cooperative Union.

Roasted for espresso, it brings blueberry sweetness up front, rich dark chocolate through the middle, and warm cardamom spice on the finish. Full bodied and fruit forward, it pulls a sweet, syrupy shot and holds up well with milk.

Best as espresso or moka pot, and just as good in pour over or drip. Roasted weekly in small batches, and orders ship within 3 business days of being placed.

How to brew it

For espresso, try 18g in and 36 to 40g out in about 28 seconds to bring the blueberry forward. Avoid over extracting, which mutes the fruit.

Coffee questions

Questions, answered

The things people ask us most.

How should I grind my coffee for my brew method?

Pick your grind above, or choose whole bean and grind at home. As a guide: fine for espresso, medium for pour over and drip, and coarse for French press.

How fresh is the coffee when it arrives?

We roast weekly in small batches in Ottawa, and your order ships within 3 business days of being placed, so your coffee reaches you soon after its roast for peak flavour.

Should I choose whole bean or ground?

Every coffee is available as whole bean or ground to your brew method. Whole bean stays fresher longer; ground is ready to brew right away.

How should I store my coffee to keep it fresh?

Keep it in an airtight container away from light, heat, and moisture. Avoid the fridge, and use it within a few weeks of opening for the best flavour.
